This isn't rehab.
This is performance therapy.
Physical therapy and sports performance under one roof. We find the real problem, fix it properly, and build you back stronger than you were before.
HSA/FSA accepted • Superbills provided • Same-week appointments available
Traditional PT gets you to "normal."
We get you to optimal.
Most physical therapy ends the moment the pain stops. But pain-free isn't the same as performing well. We don't just rehab injuries — we build resilient bodies that stay healthy.
Most PT Clinics
- Treat the symptom, not the source
- Discharge you the moment pain decreases
- Hand you a photocopied exercise sheet
- Operate completely separate from your training
- Wait until you're already injured to get involved
Performance Therapy at MKSPT
- Find the root cause of why it hurts
- Keep going until you're performing, not just pain-free
- Build an individualized plan for your body and goals
- Coordinate directly with your strength coach in the same building
- Reduce injury risk before something breaks down
Dr. Colin Laughlin
"The goal isn't just to help you recover. It's to help you move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing the things that make life worth living."
Dr. Laughlin isn't a typical physical therapist. Working alongside a strength and conditioning team in the same facility, he bridges the gap between recovery and performance. Whether you're rehabbing after surgery or trying to finally fix a nagging shoulder that's followed you for years, the approach is the same: find the real problem, fix it properly, and build you back stronger than you were before.

Typical PT clinic vs. Maximum Kinetics
There's a reason athletes and active adults in Lake Charles choose us.
Typical PT Clinic
- Rushed, overlapping appointments
- A different therapist every visit
- Cookie-cutter exercise handouts
- Discharged when pain decreases
- No connection to your training
- Reactive — waits until you're hurt
Maximum Kinetics
- Full sessions, no rushing
- The same doctor, every visit
- Individualized treatment protocols
- Discharged when you're performing
- Integrated with MKSPT training programs
- Proactive — reduce risk before it breaks
When I walked in Maximum Kinetics I immediately felt and saw something different. I had been to three other PT facilities in town and used their services in the past to no avail. After a few sessions, my pain level is significantly reduced and my body is getting stronger - giving me my life back. 100% recommend to anyone.
Questions about cash-based care
The honest answers to what most people want to ask but don't.
Why don't you take insurance?
Because insurance would decide how we treat you — and we're not willing to hand that over.
When a clinic bills insurance, the insurer sets the terms: how many visits you get approved for, what qualifies as "medically necessary," and when you're considered done. To stay profitable under those reimbursement rates, most clinics have to see several patients at once, which is why you end up doing exercises with a tech while your therapist works with someone else.
Going cash-based removes all of that. You get one-on-one time with your doctor for your full session. We treat what actually needs treating. And you're discharged when you're performing — not when a reimbursement code says the episode is over.
Doesn't that make it more expensive?
Often it's the opposite — and it surprises people.
With a high-deductible plan, you're frequently paying the full contracted rate out of pocket anyway until that deductible is met. Add a copay per visit, and a course of care spread across many short appointments adds up fast.
Our sessions are longer and there are fewer of them, because we're treating the root cause instead of managing a symptom across a dozen 15-minute slots. Fewer visits, real progress in each one. Most people spend less overall and get further.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Physical therapy is a qualified medical expense, so your HSA or FSA card works here just like it would anywhere else. Bring it and we'll run it directly.
Can I still get reimbursed by my insurance?
Possibly — it depends on your plan.
We provide a superbill after your visits: an itemized receipt with the diagnosis and treatment codes your insurer needs. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you submit it directly and they reimburse you according to your coverage.
Not sure whether your plan has out-of-network benefits? Call the number on the back of your card and ask specifically about outpatient physical therapy. We're happy to walk you through what to ask.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
Louisiana has direct access for physical therapy, so in most cases you can come straight to us without a physician referral.
There are some limits on how long we can treat under direct access before a referral is needed, and certain situations call for physician involvement sooner. We'll tell you clearly if that applies to you — and if something we find during your assessment needs a different specialist, we'll say so and help you get there.
What actually happens at my first visit?
A full evaluation with Dr. Laughlin — not paperwork and a handoff.
We go through your history, what you're feeling, and what you're trying to get back to. Then we assess how you actually move, because where it hurts and why it hurts are usually two different places. You'll leave the first visit understanding what's going on and what the plan is.
Most people also start treatment that same day. We don't schedule an assessment just to book you for treatment later.
Is this only for athletes?
No. The name says performance, but performance means something different for everyone.
We treat competitive athletes, weekend lifters, professionals whose backs give out at their desk, parents who want to keep up with their kids, and people rehabbing after surgery. The standard is the same regardless: get you moving well, not just hurting less.
What if I'm already training somewhere — or here?
Even better. That's the entire reason this exists under the same roof as our training floor.
If you train at MKSPT, Dr. Laughlin and your strength coach coordinate directly. No conflicting instructions, no guessing about what you should be avoiding, no starting from zero when you're cleared. Your program adapts around what we're treating and progresses as you recover.
Training somewhere else is fine too — we'll give you clear guidance you can hand to your coach.
Stop managing pain.
Start performing.
Whether you're recovering from surgery, fighting a nagging injury, or you just want to move better — Dr. Laughlin and the MKSPT team are ready to help.
Start Feeling Better Book a Free 15-Min CallHow payment works. We're a cash-based practice — which means no insurance company deciding how long your session lasts or when you're "done." You get full one-on-one time with your doctor, every visit.
